Elderly Woman Attacked and Burned: This Week’s Police Blotter

A rundown of crime in the 88th precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton HIll.

The following arrest information was supplied by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Whitman Houses Resident Burned With Unknown Substance

An 85-year-old woman was attacked on Thursday, Nov. 10 around 1 p.m. at Whitman Houses. Nelson Sanchez, a 43-year-old male, hit the woman multiple times with an unknown object, and threw an unidentified liquid on her, causing severe burns to the woman’s right arm. The victim was taken to Cornell Medical Center to treat her injuries. Sanchez was arrested an hour later.

Two Arrested in Attempted Robbery

Three men attempted to rob someone in the train station on Lafayette Avenue and Washington Avenue on Monday, Nov. 7 around 4 p.m. A police officer spotted the three crooks and gave chase. The suspects fled in a grey sedan, but officers spotted the car about half an hour later and arrested two suspects, and 18-year-old male and a 33-year-old male.

Cab Driver Attacked

An illegal livery cab driver had just dropped off a passenger at Whitman Houses on Monday, Nov. 7 around 8 p.m. when someone opened his driver side door and said, “I told you to stay away from her. Next time it will be worse.” The suspect then hit the man over the head with a gun and snatched his $300 chain. It is unclear as to how the two men knew each other.

Man Robbed on South Oxford Street

On Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:15 p.m. a man was in front of a building on S. Oxford Street between Hanson Place and Atlantic Avenue when two thieves, who demanded his property, approached him. One suspect told the victim he had a gun, then took the victim’s Samsung Galaxy cell phone and fled.

Man Arrested in Cell Phone Robbery

A 39-year-old male was arrested on Friday, Nov. 11 for robbing a woman of her iPhone at approximately 2 a.m. on Nov. 4. The robbery occurred on Lefferts Place and Grand Avenue.

Man Stabbed While Trying to Confront Thieves

A man was stabbed on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6:15 p.m. at Myrtle and Washington avenues. The victim was attempting to confront the group of suspects after he noticed they were in possession of a bike that looked similar to one that was stolen from him earlier. The suspects then proceeded to stab the victim multiple times causing several puncture wounds and cuts. The victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital where he received 12 stitches.

Man Attempts to Beat Girlfriend With Hammer

On Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. at Whitman Houses, a 29-year-old woman got into an argument with her boyfriend. The boyfriend attempted to hit her with a hammer, but missed, causing damage to her door. He then choked the woman and threatened her, stating that she better watch out because he was going to kill her. The victim was not injured.

Man Stabbed on C Train

On Saturday, Nov. 12 around midnight, a man was attacked by two crooks while riding the C train between the Clinton-Washington and Lafayette Avenue stations. The two suspects approached the man and began punching him, while one took out a box cutter and stabbed the man multiple times in the face. The victim was transported to Brooklyn Hospital to treat his injuries.

Construction Building Burglarized

On Nov. 4, a man left the Triton Construction building at 470 Vanderbilt Ave. between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue. He returned the following Monday to find that a Dell laptop and a camera were missing, totaling $1,800.

Man Returns to Find Room Robbed

On Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m., a man returned to his apartment on Adelphi Street between Myrtle and Park avenues to find his portable DVD player missing. The victim has two roommates but neither was home at the time of the burglary.

Verizon Truck Burglarized in Broad Daylight

On Thursday, Nov. 10, a man parked his Verizon truck on Grand Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Fulton Street at approximately 3 p.m. He returned to the truck at 4 p.m. to find that the passenger side lock had been popped open and his Verizon jacket and BMW car keys were missing.

Backpack Stolen From Stroller

On Tuesday, Nov. 8 a woman left her backpack on her child’s stroller in front of a store on Grand and Lafayette avenues. The woman walked away for a minute, and when she returned her backpack was gone. The bag contained the woman’s wallet, some cash, her driver’s license, student ID card and a credit card.

Bike Stolen on Flatbush Avenue

A man parked his $1,500 Stump Jumper mountain bike on Flatbush Avenue near Atlantic Terminal around 2 p.m. He returned 15 minutes later to find that the bike had been stolen.

Best Buy Credit Card Thief Busted

A 29-year-old woman was busted for attempting to use a credit card that didn’t belong to her in the Best Buy at Atlantic Terminal Mall. The woman was attempting to purchase two MacBook Pro laptops, which would’ve cost the credit card’s owner a whopping $3,720.

Extra Space Storage Robbed

A woman was keeping several items in storage at the Extra Space Storage facility at 41 Flatbush Ave. between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue. She went to the facility on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 a.m. and found that her Sanyo TV, PlayStation 3, two coats, a car tire, some sweatsuits and a pair of 7 Jeans were missing, worth $2,975 in total.

Panty Thief Hits Victoria’s Secret

On Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 p.m., someone grabbed $2,040 worth in cotton panties from the Victoria’s Secret in Atlantic Terminal Mall. Police will review the store’s video surveillance.

Woman’s Social Security Account Robbed

On Saturday, Nov. 12, a woman reported to the 88th Precinct station house that someone made a $267 withdrawal in Social Security funds using her benefits card. The withdrawal was made on Nov. 1.

Toyota Stolen on Dekalb Avenue

A woman parked her 2010 Toyota Sequoia on Dekalb Avenue between S. Oxford Street and Cumberland Street on Thursday, Nov. 10 around midnight. The woman returned at 9:15 a.m. the next day to find her car missing.
