Ratner's Heir To Open Prepared Foods Store on Myrtle Ave.

Jewish comfort foods, craft beer and rotisserie chickens are coming to Clinton Hill this fall.

Fall brings with it many delicious foods: cider doughnuts, apple pies, roast turkey. But for Clinton Hill residents, this autumn will also welcome with it bowls of traditional matzo ball soup.

Theo Peck—a great-grandson of the legendary kosher deli-dairy Ratner's founder—is opening his own eponymous prepared foods store at 455A Myrtle Avenue, featuring  rotisserie chicken, charcuterie, artisanal cheese, sandwiches, growlers of craft beer as well as kasha varnishkes and lotsa matzo.

"I don't want to be popular," Peck told the Wall Street Journal in a recent article," I want to be around for a long time. I want to feed my family for 50 years. I want my son to learn how to cook in that kitchen."

His own knife skills have been honed through a combination of learning behind the scenes at Ratner's, attending culinary school, and working in restaurant kitchens like Blue Hill at Stone Barnes.

But despite the La Colombe coffee, don't expect things to be too hoity toity.

“Living in the area with my wife and son, I wanted a place for locals to go to grab a quick bite to eat without having to worry about high prices and lack of quality,” said Peck in a release. “Whether people are picking up food for their families, entertaining guests, going on a picnic or need something convenient after working late, we hope the shop will become a neighborhood staple.”

Look for doors to open this September.
