No need to relax the rules; thousands of qualified students couldn't even find a seat this year andRead More remained in schools with no G&T programs or transferred to private schools. There should be enough G&T classes in every district to accommodate all who get 90%. How can the DOE under-estimate this every year and not want to do anything about it?

You may want to look at the comments from Carroll Gardens...Read More http://carrollgardens.patch.com/articles/success-academy-charter-schools-tout-record-high-enrollment

My gosh, what a breathless article. Are the application numbers any different for other Charters?Read More I know the public middle schools my son has applied for also have similar high application numbers. A more thoroughly researched article might have touched upon concerns that Moskowtiz's schools "cream" off the strongest students from improving public schools.

If reporters can find out the statistics for articles like these they CAN get statistics for howRead More many actually enroll ( far less than publicized), how many leave or are counseled/kicked out, etc. i am sure SA provided the data for the article- which of course means it is suspect, and they claim they dont have the other data????? what a sham!!!! The problem is there is not enough public outcry. Parents who have left or want to leave SA ARE beginning to talk. They speak of lack of respect towards their children and themselves. They speak of test-prep factories. They speak of children who have had their voices and opinions taken away. It's Boot-Camp in many locations. Staff members snap their fingers at students as if they were training dogs.

The statistics are probably manipulated by the Mayor. Does the 41% real learning, or are theyRead More pushed ahead with a bogus diploma. I have seen grade inflation and pressures on teachers to pass kids everywhere. The big emphasis is on teaching to the tests (NY State or Local), and then to incorporate those test results into the student grades. So, just as Kaplan and Princeton Review teach kids test taking strategies based more on structural aspects of testing that you can game, so the Blooberg administrations have been strategizing or playing the game to get numbers that they can publicize. And even those numbers are manipulated and often deceptive. I taught for 20+ years in the NYC high schools, and the strategies for manipulating results flood the system. They are clever, and the Master Puppeteer can create illusions very well.
