Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the revered architects of Central Park and Prospect Park, Fort Greene Park serves as the neighborhood's green heart. The park's most prominent feature is the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, a 149-foot tower that stands atop the remains of some of the 11,000 men and women who died on prison ships anchored in the East River and controlled by the Britsh during the Revolutionary War. The monument is at the center of the of the park and offers great views of Brooklyn and the Manhattan skyline. The park also has tennis and basketball courts.
