5 Things: Mother's Day Edition

Events to celebrate the special women in your life.

1. Grab a glass of bubbly. Places all over Brooklyn are holding special brunch events to celebrate that special mama in your life, including Melt in Park Slope, which is offering a free glass of champagne to mothers with the purchase of an entree.

2. From the mouths of babes.
The Brooklyn Children's Museum is hosting an event for kids 5-years-old and younger to celebrate the wonderful women in their lives with stories, singing, and creating special gifts.  2:30–3:30 p.m., 145 Brooklyn Ave. at St. Marks Ave., free with museum admission.

3. Take in a show.
A Fort Greene-based actor will be adding her own perspective to the popular reading series, Listen To Your Mothertonight at 5 p.m. at Peter Norton Symphony Space, located at 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. The national annual event features an area's local writers and performers who share personal essays in front of live audiences, making for a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and can be purchased in advance online at the series' website here

4. Celebrate a legend. Tammy Wynette is hosting a Mother's Day tribute at the Branded Saloon to Joan Crawford, which will include a special narration by Joan herself! 7 p.m., 603 Vanderbilt Ave., Free.

5. Take in the scenery. Rain has packed a wallop for the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's many beautiful sights, but there's still plenty to see and do. Bring mom for a relaxing, quiet visit to check out the cherry blossoms. Wander, or take one of their guided tours.
