Charlie Chaplin, a D.A. Candidates Debate and a Fundraiser for a Local Youth Tennis League

Monday, August 12, will be the last day to check out a special screening of "Chaplin in 35mm" playing now at BAMCinematek. "The only genius to come out of the movie industry" (George Bernard Shaw), Charlie Chaplin gave cinema some of its most indelible images. Rediscover four of his comedy classics in 35mm.

On Wednesday, August 14, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at 180 Remsen Street in Brooklyn, join VOCAL-NY, The Brooklyn Reform Coalition & The Brooklyn Young Democrats for a forum featuring the candidates running for Brooklyn District Attorney. Find out where the candidates stand on important issues like stop and frisk, drug policy, alternatives to incarceration, civil rights, the relationship between law enforcement and public health, and more!

This Wednesday, August 14, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., you are invited to a MEET AND GREET Fundraiser for 36th City Council District Candidate Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. at Rustik Tavern, located 471 DeKalb Avenue (between Franklin and Kent). Cornegy will speak to the general public with a focus on “Improving Education and Youth Services for our Young People.” Also, there will be a voter registration drive on site for young adults.

On Thursday, August 15, come support the Kings County Tennis League at its Fourth Annual Fundraiser at DUMBO Loft. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for two causes: 1) to take over 100 kids and parents to Arthur Ashe Kids Day; and 2) to renovate the tennis court at Marcy Public Housing. It's a night of jazz, free drinks, raffle prizes and good conversation-- all while overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline.  It's going to be a blast. August 15th from 6:30 - 10:00PM; $25 advance tickets, raffle prizes include: Brooklyn NETS box, US Open Tickets, Philharmonic Tickets, and more. And finally, beginning this Friday and continuing every Friday through the month of August is the Women of African Descent Film Festival at Restoration Plaza, featuring films and shorts of varying genre, international films, romantic comedies, films made by youth and documentaries.
