Heat Advisory Will Remain In Effect Until 8 p.m.

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind (and stay safe).

The heat wave isn't over yet — with high temperatures expected to continue into Friday night. The National Weather Service reissued its heat advisory, which will remain in effect until 8 p.m. on July 19. 

With heat index values in the triple digits, the city's office of emergency management will keep cooling centers open across the five boroughs to help residents stay out of the potentially health-threatening heat.

Here are the cooling centers open in our community, according to nyc.gov:

Hours: Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wheelchair Accessible?: Yes. 

93 St. Edwards St. 
Hours: Mon., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tue., 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Wed., 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Thurs.,  1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fri. 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Wheelchair Accessible?: No.

Hours: Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You should also keep some of these OEM cooling tips in mind through Saturday:

  • Watch out for heat stress. Symptoms include hot, dry skin or cold, clammy skin, dizziness, naseau, disorientation, trouble breathing or rapid heartbeat. 
  • Check on elderly neighbors and those who have trouble leaving their homes and apartments. 
  • Wear light clothing in light colors
  • Drink water, obviously. 
  • Stay in the shade if outdoors, keep the AC on inside if possible. 
  • Gather at areas like pools, malls or movie theaters.
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Keep children and pets OUT of hot cars.
