Could the next coach of the Brooklyn Nets be one of the great New Jersey point guards of all time?

Jason Kidd is reportedly interested in transitioning from player to coach, and he wants to make that transition in Brooklyn, according to ESPN.com.

The sports website reported that Kidd will meet with Brooklyn general manager Billy King to pitch him on the idea.

Kidd, who announced his retirement Monday, has been a basketball mainstay since he entered the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks in 1994.

He played seven seasons with the Nets when they were based in New Jersey, leading them to the NBA Finals twice.

The Nets fired interim coach P.J. Carlesimo after their first-round playoff exit against Chicago earlier this year. Carlesimo was himself replacing Avery Johnson, who was fired after rumored clashes with team star Deron Williams mid-year.

Would Jason Kidd be your pick to take over the team? Let us know what you think in the comments.
