Lia Neal; Team USA Take Bronze Medal

Australia nabs gold; USA swim team, including Brooklyn's Lia Neal, earn bronze medal in 400 free relay.

Fort Greene and all of Brooklyn can now boast having a medalist in the 2012 Olympics.

, 17, as part of the 4 x 100 Women's Meter Freestyle Relay team, won the bronze in competition on Saturday afternoon.

Australia earned gold with a time of 3:33.15, with the Netherlands taking the silver medal at 3:33.79.

Team USA clocked in at 3:34.24. 

Earlier today, residents young and old joined Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Fort Greene, .

"She's an example for all of these kids," James said.

LIA, my blood pressure has been going up ever since your Mom started taking you to swim. I always knew you had something special Dear Lia. And your Dad's been all the time talking and keeping us up on what Lia doing. Pressure Shot-Up 2day...And I surly feel GREAT...Go LIA & Team USA.... Auntie Johnnie Mae...

Lia should be an inspiration to her peers and kids to follow. Congrats to her and the Neal family. I know her father Rome is in his glory.

I hope that something like this can inspire some kids to take up swimming or other sports

@ Anita: It too bad Ms. Hall had to travel to Manhattan to engage sport training programs. These kinds of sport training programs should have been made available in Fort Greene. How come these programs don't exist in our community?
