Learn the dance that makes simple walking look irresistible. You’ll get grounded in fundamental tango steps such as ochos and the woman’s cross, and learn the basics of leading and following. Special attention will be paid to the walk, the embrace, and the connection to the floor and to your partner.By the end, you’ll know enough to move around the dance floor successfully and attend your first milonga. No partner necessary (students rotate). Amanda Luken has been dancing almost all her life and has studied Argentine Tango for the past 8 years under Dardo Galletto, Karina Romero, Carlos De Chey, and multiple artists from Argentina.
Bomba y Plena w/Alma Cruz – Saturday, March 10 from 1:30-3:00pm

With Live Drumming. Bomba is a folkloric dance that emerged from the blend of cultures in Puerto Rico: that of the native Indians (called Tainos), Spaniards, and Africans. Bomba dancers will learn to respond to drummers and also challenge the drums, starting a conversation with their movements that the drummer answers in a call-and-response pattern. The playful Plena dance, called “the people’s newspaper,” tells stories in rhymes that reflect the thoughts, feelings and adventures of the people. Come and let its simple and elegant rhythm inspire you to dance with carefree abandon. Teacher Alma Cruz is a choreographer, teaching artist, dancer, and actress, and has been performing since she was eleven years old. She is the founder and director of experimental dance ensemble AC & CO.
