Happy Birthday Girl Scouts

This week, as I celebrate the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts of America, with my fellow Girl Scouts, it is important that we acknowledge its' Founder Juliette Gordon-Low.

This week, as I celebrate the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts of America, with my fellow Girl Scouts, it is important that we acknowledge its' Founder Juliette Gordon-Low, for her worldwide success at introducing female empowerment to the minds of young women, at a time when it wasn't a popular notion.

In 1912, Gordon-Low didn't think it strange to gather young ladies, and many from ethnic backgrounds, that were over-looked by community organizers, to promote the idea of independent "girl power", which gained the attention of many including the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, calling the organization "a force for desegregation", referring to it's integration efforts.

Today, the Girl Scouts of America remain just as important as it was in the early days. We must continue to preserve feminine independence, around the world, as we do the same in our local communities. It is vital to enroll growing young ladies in organizations that will improve our agenda, teach womenhood and promote female wholeness.

Let's not overlook the value of organizations such as the Girl Scouts of America because it impacts young girls, early on, to understand the power of solidarity and it helps them to posses the understanding of liberty. It also creates for a better community, for the future, not to mention, a greater sense of family values. We must return to the days of "each one, teach one" and that's how we will begin to feel a sense of responsibility for our young to grow into functional adults. Thank you, Ms. Juliette Gordon-Low!
