Traditionally marked on the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of the eleventh month to commemorate the ending of World War I, Veterans Day will be observed in the U.S. on Monday, Nov. 12 this year.
That means many public sector services will be closed. However, many private businesses and park faciilities will remain open. Here's a list of key openings and closings on Veterans Day:
USPS Mail Delivery
No mail; all postal locations closed Monday.
Banking
Most branches closed; limited telephone banking at some banks, online services available.
New York City Public Schools
Schools are closed.
Brooklyn Library
All branches will be closed.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Open.
Audubon Center at the Boathouse — Prospect Park
Open, noon to 4 p.m.
Carousel — Prospect Park
Open, noon to 4 p.m.
Lefferts Historic House - Prospect Park
Open, noon to 5 p.m.
Jane's Carousel — Brooklyn Bridge Park
Expected to reopen Sun., Nov. 11 after cleanup and repair from Hurricane Sandy. Closed Mondays.

All government offices are closed.
Parking
Alternate side parking rules are suspended Monday, though meter rules are still in effect.
