The Early Word: Rep. Towns' Fundraising Roars Back

Fourth Quarter 2011 returns show longtime Congressman was down, but definitely not out.

1. The New York Times Local blog got the scoop yesterday regarding Rep. Edolphus "Ed" Towns' fundraising numbers. According to Fourth Quarter 2011 filings with the Federal Election Commission, Towns raised more than $230,000, bringing his total cash on hand to $162,407.28—up from a mere $11,240 the previous quarter. During the same period, Democratic primary challenger Hakeem Jeffries raised $105,000 for a total of $235,962.29 cash on hand.

2. In honor of Black History Month, The Fort Greene Association presents an evening with Grammy award winning at Brooklyn Moon Cafe, 745 Fulton St., at 7 p.m. tonight.
