The Early Word: Myrtle Avenue, A Brownfield?

Development group seeks state assistance to clean up contaminated properties.

1. Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership will make a presentation to the CB2 Land Use Committee about their plans to apply for entrance into the New York State Brownfield Opportunity Area program, which includes grant money and technical assistance to help community based organizations and municipalities remediate and redevelop environmentally contaminated, vacant, and underutilized sites in their neighborhoods. NYU Poly, 5 MetroTech Center, Dibner Building, Room LC400. 6 p.m.

2. Reading is Fundamental, the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the U.S., will give out free books after ever sixth read to kids. Clinton Hill Library, 380 Washington Ave. 2:30 p.m. Free.

3. Myrtle Avenue Community-Run Farm Stand brings fresh fruit, vegetables and other products to the neighborhood. N. Portland and Myrtle avenues. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free.
