The Early Word: Entrepreneurs Bill Gets Support From Towns

Proposal would reduce tax burden for new small businesses.

1. A bill looking to help entrepreneurs create jobs received local support from Rep. Edolphus "Ed" Towns, D-Brooklyn, who said that the bill would help start-ups by reducing their tax burden. The Help Entrepreneurs Create American Jobs Act calls for a permanent doubling of the amount of start-up expenses that small business owners can deduct from their taxes from $5,000 to $10,000. "The more small businesses we help get started now, the sooner they will become the employers of the future," Towns said.
