Shelter: Lottery Opens For Affordable Units in Brooklyn

City accepting applications for apartments in buildings under construction in Bushwick and Bed-Stuy.

The 40 Vanderbilt building at the newly developed Navy Green site in Fort Greene-Clinton Hill isn't the only affordable housing opportunity in town.

For this week's edition of Shelter, we're spreading the word about eight studio apartments available at a building under construction in Bushwick and 23 family units at Noel Pointer Court Apartments in Bed-Stuy.

The building at 1143 Dekalb Ave. in Bushwick is for singles with annual incomes from $31,960 to $34,380. Rent for each of the eight studios is $799. Note: Residents of Brooklyn Community Board 4 will get preference for 50 percent of the units; New York City municipal employees, 5 percent; Residents with mobility issues, 2 percent.

To apply, send a request by mail to 1826 Inc., c/o SJP Tax Consultants Inc., 149-41 14th Ave., Whitestone, N.Y. 11357 with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Noel Pointer Court Apartments, located at 790 Lafayette Ave. at Throop Avenue, has six one-bedrooms and 17 two-bedroom apartments available. Income guidelines are from $24,618 to $49,800 depending on household size. Note: Residents of Community Board 3 will get preference for 50 percent of units.

To apply, download a form from the Noel Pointer Court's website or by mail to Noel Pointer Court Apartments, The Wavecrest Management Team, 87-14 116th St., Richmond Hill, N.Y. 11418. Deadline for applications is Nov. 30, 2012.

In order to participate in housing lotteries, prospective renters will have to contact building managers, community sponsors and/or real estate professionals directly to fill out an application. There are no brokers' fees and no application fees.
