Sen. Squadron Supports NYU Campus on Jay St.

In a letter to the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and the MTA, Sen. Squadron said he supports NYU's proposed renovations at 370 Jay Street.

New York University’s proposal to house it’s new Center for Urban Science and Progress campus at long-empty 370 Jay Street has won the support of State Senator Daniel Squadron.

Sen. Squadron recently wrote to Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert Steel and senior officials at the MTA, and suggested that “pursuing 370 Jay Street would be a major step forward in the resurgence of Downtown Brooklyn.”

that it intended to sell off many of its unused buildings, such as the multi-story office building on Jay Street, to help close the budget gap. Even then, Sen. Squadron called the building a “blight” on Downtown Brooklyn.

By the end of October, NYU had proposed moving into the building, to house its newest Brooklyn campus, according to the Brooklyn Paper. The new Center for Urban Science and Progress would partner with technology companies like IBM to focus on making urban area safer and more energy efficient.
