Rep. Jeffries Sworn In at District Inauguration

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, D-8, received an outpouring of support Sunday at his local swearing-in ceremony.

 

With well-wishers and fellow elected officials looking on, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-8, was sworn in Sunday at the Pratt Institute, a ceremony that officially marked the Congressman's role in Washington. 

More than 1000 people trickled in and out of the Memorial Hall Auditorium and student union to bear witness as officials including Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Yvette Clarke spoke, praising Jeffries for his dedication and passion for his constituents and Brooklyn as a whole.

Rep. Ed Towns also spoke, offering any help or advice that he could provide to the new Congressman.

Musical guests included the all-male choral group Manifest as well as members of the Brown Memorial Baptist church choir.

Brown Memorial Baptist Church Senior Pastor Rev. Clinton Miller also attended and delivered the benediction. Following the prayer, Notorious B.I.G.'s "Juicy" began blaring, bringing full circle a night filled with promises of bringing Brooklyn swagger to Washington.
