Poll: Happy Hour to Dour Hour?

DOH officials reportedly may ban discounted drinks in bars and restaurants.

Last call, already? According to an article that ran in The New York Post on Sunday morning, happy hour in the city could end if Department of Health officials move forward with a proposal to ban beer and booze specials at bars and restaurants

"The ban is being pushed by the agency’s marathon-running boss, Commissioner Thomas Farley," wrote Gary Buiso in the article, "and is serious enough for one source to say the alcohol lobby had better find itself a good lawyer."

While the Agency officially denied that such a plan is in the works, multiple anonymous sources are quoted in the story saying that a ban would be in keeping with Farley's mission to “reduce risky alcohol use,” as outlined by his "Take Care of New York 2012 report.

“DOH will advocate for policies that reduce access to alcohol by adolescents and for limits on sales practices in communities and campuses that promote drinking among adolescents and heavy drinking among adults,” the document reads.

Currently 19 states ban happy hours. But would such a sobering stance work in The Big Apple, where nightlife and hospitality are such a big part of the city? Tell us in the poll below.

FYI - the ban on eating and drinking in the subway didn't pass. You can still do this legally.
