Occupy Brooklyn General Assembly to be Held Sunday in Fort Greene

Protest organizers say they will not "fade away."

The Brooklyn offshoot of the now worldwide Occupy movement plans to hold its at the site of what some consider to be the birthplace of the "corporate takeover" of the borough—Atlantic Terminal Mall.

The meeting will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the plaza in front of Target, located at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic avenues.

Unlike the Cadman Plaza site of , the outdoor space at Atlantic Terminal is privately owned and part of the mall developed by Forest City Ratner—a focal point for many a protestor's ire almost since the Occupy Brooklyn movement began.

From an Occupy Brooklyn organizer:

"We are coming to the end of an intense week for the Occupy movement in New York and across the country. After the eviction in Manhattan, 35,000 people marched across the Brooklyn bridge on Thursday and demonstrated that the movement is stronger than ever and unwilling to fade away as some politicians have been hoping."

Critics of the Atlantic Yards mega-project may have some fresh ammunition against Forest City Ratner at Sunday's protest.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday on remarks made by CEO Bruce Ratner on a , stating that existing incentives to set aside half the units for affordable housing "don't work for a high-rise building that's union built."

Brooklyn Speaks, a group consisting of nine civic and economic development groups fiercely critical of the Atlantic Yards project, accused Ratner in a press release Friday of trying to "pit union workers against working families."
