Markowitz Trying to Get Success Charter Meeting Moved to Brooklyn Tech

Current location of hearings on Cobble Hill school co-location is in Queens.

Borough President Marty Markowitz has one word for city schools' decision to hold important hearings on the at a high school in Queens:

Fuhgettaboutit.

Markowitz sent a letter to schools chancellor Dennis Walcott requesting that the location of a Dec. 14 Panel for Education Policy meeting be moved to in Fort Greene.

Currently, the PEP hearing, which includes the Success Charter co-location on its agenda, is to be held at Newtown High School in Elmhurst, Queens—about an hour away from Cobble Hill for those using mass transit.

"Considering that so many of the proposals on the agenda for this meeting directly affect school communities and proposed co-locations in Brooklyn—I would like to strongly urge you to change the location to Brooklyn Technical High School," Markowitz wrote.

An online petition to move the meeting has been launched by Justin Wedes, a former teacher who called the Queens location "extremely inaccessible," has garnered about 250 signatures as of Monday evening.
