Koch Endorsed Quinn From Deathbed: Report

The New York Times says Koch wanted to help Christine Quinn in mayoral campaign.

Mayor Ed Koch, in the final days of his life, made a hospital-bed endorsement of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for mayor, according to a report in The New York Times.

Koch, who was famously active in helping candidates campaign long after his retirement from office, died Feb. 1 of heart failure.

The Times wrote Monday that Quinn's campaign was still struggling with a way to use the former mayor's endorsement without appearing to take advantage of his death.

Quinn is one of several candidates for the mayor's office in 2013, including Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, City Comptroller John Liu and former MTA chief Joe Lhota. According to the most recent polling, she is arguably the Democratic front-runner for the office.

Koch, the article reported, committed to filming a video endorsement of her before his health took a turn for the worse early this year.
