Gov. Cuomo Declares State of Emergency in New York

State of emergency will give the State and local government officials more flexibility in dealing with the situation, Cuomo said.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency Friday as what is likely to be a powerful blizzard hits the region.

In a "thorough and exhaustive briefing," Cuomo made the declaration, and noted that New York has been through worse than what is expected this weekend.

The state of emergency will give the State and local government officials more flexibility in dealing with the situation, Cuomo said.

He also advised New Yorkers to bundle up and use common sense during the storm.

"In sum, this is a serious, severe storm, but we just went through some really terrible storms with Hurricane Sandy and we're not anticipating anything like that," he said. "It's all relative."
