Fulton Avenue Bid to Discuss Fowler Square Design

The workshop will look at ways to improve the space, including making the surrounding streets safer and implementing permanent designs.

The Fulton Avenue BID is hosting a meeting Wednesday, April 24, to discuss the future design of Fowler Square Plaza, Fort Greene's much-talked about new pedestrian plaza.

The workshop will look at ways to improve the space, including making the surrounding streets safer and implementing permanent designs in the plaza. The BID is looking for community feedback on paving, lighting and plantings, as well as other items important to residents.

The meeting will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m., at 85 South Oxford St.

Fowler Square, which occupies S. Elliott Place between Fulton Street and Lafayette Avenue, was made a permanent fixture of the neighborhood in December 2012 by the Department of Transportation, with Brooklyn Community Board 2's transportation committee unanimously voting in favor of the project.

Before the December vote settled the issue for good, the idea of making the plaza a permanent part of Fort Greene was often discussed. Some residents were initially displeased with the development, saying permanent decisions should not be made until the full effect the Barclays Center has on traffic is understood.
