Mayor Michael Bloomberg enacted the city's coastal storm plan Thursday as both Hurricane Sandy and a winter weather system threatened to combine and take aim on the five boroughs.
Given the nickname "Frankenstorm" as a nod to Mary Shelley's monster novel, the potentially colossal weather event has the possibility of bringing strong winds, heavy rain and historic coastal flooding to much of the Eastern Seaboard—including low-lying areas of Brooklyn and Queens.
That means folks forced out of their homes during last year's Tropical Storm Irene may have to leave for higher ground yet again.
Today and over the weekend, Patch will continue to track the approaching storm and the city's response.
Stay tuned.
