DOT Asks Residents to Weigh In on City Bench Locations

Agency looking for places to install 1,500 extra benches across the city.

For some, it's the perfect place to enjoy a bag lunch on a summer day. For others, it's a welcome respite in the middle of that long walk to the store, work or home. 

However one choose to use them, the park bench is one of those essential, yet often overlooked, components of city living.

And now the city Department of Transportation is looking for a few more good places to put them.

Flush with money from a Federal Transit Administration grant, city DOT announced this week that it would accept nominations from residents for locations to place an extra 1,500 benches throughout the five boroughs.

Nominations can be submitted throught DOT's website or via a printable form sent by mail to NYC DOT, 55 Water St., 9th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10041.
