Brooklyn woman wins $25K on scratch-off card purchased at Myrtle Ave. retailer.

Brooklyn resident Annie Neal recently got lucky in Fort Greene—and she has on Myrtle Avenue partially to thank for her good fortune.

Neal purchased her $25,000 winning 8's Are Great scratch off card from the store located at 343 Myrtle Ave. between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street, according to the New York State Lottery.

Interviewed at Klevor while waiting in line on Monday evening, fellow lottery player Justin of Fort Greene pondered what might have been.

"I would fix my grandmother's house in Puerto Rico with that money," said Justin, who plays the lotto four times a week.

According to the New York State Lottery, proceeds from ticket sales and from its new casino at Aqueduct represent over 15 percent of total state funding to local school districts.

However, critics of lottery systems argue that state-sponsored gaming unfairly targets low-income residents and can lead to problems like gambling addiction.
