Gov. Andrew Cuomo planned to officially announce his support for Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries in his race to succeed Rep. Edolphus "Ed" Towns in Congress, according to the New York Post.

The endorsement comes just days before the June 26 Democratic primary, with Councilman Charles Barron, D-East New York, in a closely watched contest with Jeffries.

Barron has garnered support from a major public sector union, DC-37, the Sierra Club and Towns himself.

In addition to Jeffries, Cuomo also prepared to endorse Rep. Nydia Velasquez, D-Brooklyn, in her three-way primary race and Rep. Charles Rangel, D-Manhattan, who despite corruption allegations is continuing his bid to represent Harlem in Congress.
