'Brooklyn Tech Triangle' Targets Navy Yard

Along with DUMBO and Downtown Brooklyn, industrial area is now at the center of investment to foster new industries.

The economic future of the borough may rest with the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The industrial complex became part of a three-pronged study announced by elected officials on Friday, joining DUMBO Improvement District and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership as a partner in a borough-wide explosion of 21st century innovation.

"This study will help us learn how to make the Brooklyn Tech Triangle a more a desirable location for tech companies to set up shop and create jobs," said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

With $100,000 in city funds, this 10-month study will help connect tech startups with available Brooklyn spaces, develop a strategy to draw-in more companies and improve transit in DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene.

"I have no doubt that one day Brooklyn will rival Silicon Valley in terms of high-tech ingenuity and the creation of technology sector jobs—and funding the Brooklyn Technology Triangle is yet another step toward getting us there," said Borough President Marty Markowitz.
