Violence at the Auburn Family Residence: This Week's Police Blotter

Two incidents occurred within a short period of time on Feb. 5.

This blotter was compiled using information provided by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Robbery

A man was robbed while he was walking on Vanderbilt Avenue near Willoughby Avenue at night on Feb. 3. The 24-year-old victim told police he was pushed to the ground from behind at 10:35 p.m. Two crooks then took his iPhone from his hand, as well as his wallet, which held his debit card, Metro card, driver's license and social security card.

A 54-year-old man was robbed as he made his way down Lafayette Avenue near Classon Avenue early Feb. 7. The victim told police he was approached by a man at 2:45 a.m. who said, "You're supposed to give me some money." The victim pulled out a five-dollar bill and said, "This is all I have." The crook was not satisfied, as he took the money and punched the victim, throwing him down to the ground. The crook, with the help of another man, continued to punch and kick the victim in the chest and the head as he was on the ground. A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection to the incident.  

Two men snatched a woman's pocketbook while she waited for a bus at Vanderbilt and Park avenues at 1 p.m. on Feb. 8. As the men grabbed the purse, the 23-year-old woman fell, but she regained the bag and no items were missing.

Assault 

A 22-year-old woman attacked a 28-year-old woman with an umbrella at the Auburn Family Residence on Feb. 5. The 22-year-old approached the 28-year-old around 11:30 a.m., screaming and then hitting the victim's right arm repeatedly with a long, black umbrella. The victim was brought to Brooklyn Hospital to be treated for her injuries. The 22-year-old woman was arrested in connection to the incident. 

That same day, another incident occurred at the Auburn Family Residence. At 11:20 a.m., an irate 20-year-old man threatened a police officer who was on the scene, using foul and abusive language. The man pushed a guard to the floor, injuring her left leg, and attacked the police officer, punching him in the face and pushing him into a wall. The man then ran out of the area and punched-in a glass window, causing it to shatter. He was arrested on site.

 

Burglary

At 5:42 p.m. on Feb 9, a 27-year-old man reported that someone entered his Clinton Avenue apartment, located near DeKalb Avenue, and took his credit card, headset and video games. The man told police he was home at the time of the burglary, and said the front door of his apartment was unlocked. The man's neighbors told the police they did not hear anything. 

A crook stole over 70 pieces of jewelry from a store in the Atlantic Center Mall on Feb. 3. The 58-year-old victim, who was working at Sterling Gallery at 139 Flatbush Ave., told police that he left his post near the store’s showcase to go to the bathroom at around 4 p.m. About 45 minutes later, he realized that someone had stolen 73 pieces of jewelry—an array of gold and diamond studded earrings, bellybutton rings, and more. The lock to the showcase was not broken, but someone had tampered with it and removed over $900 in goods.  


Grand Larceny

A perp snatched a woman's cell phone while she was riding the train on Jan. 27. The 35-year-old woman told police she was riding a southbound Q train at 10:15 p.m. when the perp, who was also on the train, grabbed her cell phone and ran off as the train door's opened at the Atlantic Avenue stop. 

A woman's wallet disappeared after she left it inside a desk drawer at Brooklyn Hospital Feb. 5. At 10:20 a.m., the 41-year-old woman told police she stepped out of the office and when she came back, the wallet, which contained $200 in cash, her driver's license and credit cards, was gone. 

A crook tried to get away with an iPhone on Feb. 7 and wasn't so lucky with the getaway. At 4:09 p.m., the 20-year-old man was spotted aboard a northbound Q train on Flatbush Avenue and Hason Place reaching into another person's backpack from behind. He tried to take the person's iPhone 4 from the backpack, but didn't make it off with the goods, as he was arrested. 

A woman's bag containing her wallet, credit card, debit card and external hard drive, was taken at Pratt Institute on Feb. 10. The 23-year-old woman told police that she left the bag unattended for about an hour, and when she came back to get it, it was gone. 

A crook made off with a woman's car parked on Myrtle Avenue and Hall Street Feb. 2, but didn't get far. The woman told police on Feb. 4 she had left the Nissan Altima unattended for half an hour, taking the keys with her but leaving it running as the car has a push-to-start system. When she came back, the car was gone. It was later found on Lincoln Place between Rogers and Nostrand avenues.
