Update: Man Armed With Scissors Shot By Police After Attacking Woman

Police say the man was brought to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

A man was shot by a police officer Wednesdsay afternoon after he threatened to stab a civilian woman with a pair of scissors, police said.

At approximately 3:22 p.m., a uniformed police officer on foot was flagged down on Fulton Street by a woman who said an emotionally disturbed person was inside 48 Fort Greene Pl., near Lafayette and DeKalb Avenues.

The officer, 25, and the woman entered the vacant building, which is across the street from Brooklyn Technical High School, and found the 40-year-old man on the second floor holding a pair of scissors to his own throat.

The man threw the woman to the ground and threatened to stab her with the scissors, police said. The officer fired twice, striking the man in the torso. EMS responded and transported the man to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The officer was brought to Methodist Hospital to be treated for tinnitus. The woman was not injured. An investigation is ongoing, police said.
