Touché to Lose Liquor License, 88th Works to Improve Safety in Surrounding Area

Also: Myrtle Avenue's New Sapolo Restaurant and Carthage 521 summonsed by 88th Precinct.

A nightclub that has long been a thorn in the side of many Clinton Hill residents will lose its liquor license by the end of the summer.

The State Liquor Authority has refused to renew the liquor license of Touché, a club located at 46 Washington Ave. between Park and Flushing avenues. Illiana Murray of the Ryerson Street Block Association said in an email the club's license will expire in August.

Murray also noted the 88th Precinct has given two summonses to New Sapolo Restaurant, another business some residents regard as a breeding ground for bad behavior. The chinese and spanish food restaurant and bar, located at 501 Myrtle Ave., most recently served as the backdrop to the murder of Antonio Wilson II, 23, who was shot Friday, May 31 by a stray bullet as he exited the nearby Fork Cafe.

Carthage 521, a hookah bar located at 521 Myrtle Ave., also received a summons.

The developments are part of the 88th Precinct's efforts to bring safety to Myrtle Avenue and the surrounding area, which residents have said experienced an uptick in violence and crime.

The 88th Precinct has also increased patrols on Myrtle Avenue on the weekends, requested cameras to be installed along the Avenue and has been meeting with business owners to discuss what they can do to improve conditions, Murray noted.
