UPDATE: SUV Crashes Into Subway Entrance

Update, June 20, 3:25 p.m.: The New York Post reports that the driver of the Mercedes SUV that crashed into a subway station entrance Sunday was a teenager driving with his father on a learner's permit.

A woman was struck by flying debris and sent to Brooklyn Hospital with minor injuries, police said. 

A Mercedes SUV jumped a curb and crashed into a subway entrance this afternoon on Flatbush Avenue, taking out a portion of the iron railing and signage. 

The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. at the Nevins Street Station at the Manhattan and Bronx-bound entrance located on Flatbush between Nevins and Livingston streets in downtown Brooklyn. The station serves the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 subway lines.

No injuries were reported by responders at the scene. 

According to police, the driver of the SUV was taken into custody.

An employee of the Metropolitan Transit Authority said the agency's structural division was en route this afternoon to make necessary repairs to the entrance, which at 5 p.m. was still filled with twisted pieces of metal and broken signage.

The MTA employee said the entrance would be open by Monday morning's rush hour.
