As of 4:30 p.m., the NYPD Canine Unit was on the scene.

Police evacuated Atlantic Terminal Long Island Railroad station, as well as the 2, 3, 4 and 5 line platforms at Atlantic Ave.-Pacific St. station. Trains on those lines were bypassing Atlantic Avenue in both directions.

Coney Island-bound riders looking to travel on the D line were being directed to 36th Street station in order to continue their trip.

Throngs of subway riders were seen lining along Atlantic Avenue looking to catch a bus to get home.

"This is just a mess," said Beatrice Kennedy, who waited for instructions on how to reboard a No. 2 line train to get to her home in Crown Heights. "They're not telling us anything."
