Scissors-Wielding Man Shot by Police Indicted On Multiple Charges

A man shot by a police officer in a Fort Greene apartment on Jan. 2 after he allegedly tried to stab a woman with a pair of scissors, was indicted Tuesday on multiple charges, the Fort Greene Local reported.

Keary Green, 40, who was shot twice in the torse by a 25-year-old officer in 48 Fort Greene Pl., was charged with attempted assault in the second and third degrees, menacing in the second and third degrees, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Green was shot after he lunged at his girlfriend, Maureen Hilliard, 39, after a confrontation in her apartment at around 3:22 p.m. on Jan. 2, cops told the Local.

Green, who has not been arraigned yet, was taken to Kings County Hospital Center and was initially listed in critical condition, was .

The officer from the 88th Precinct was taken to Methodist Hospital and treated for tinnitus, according to police.

The incident began when Hilliard confronted Mr. Green about a Facebook post he wrote about a dispute they had earlier that day, the DA told the Local.

When Green would not calm down, Hilliard stepped outside around 2:30 p.m. to “cool off”, the DA told the Local. When she returned to the apartment, she found Green behaving erratically and fled, the Local continued.

Hilliard flagged down an officer who was on foot on Fulton Street at approximately 3:22 p.m., cops said.

The officer and the woman entered the building, which stands across the street from Brooklyn Technical High School, and found Green on the second floor holding a pair of scissors to his own throat, police said.

Green then pushed Hilliard to the ground, lunged at her and threatened to stab her. The officer fired twice, striking the man in the torso, police continued.

The Local noted that the top count, attempted assault in the second degree, is an “E” felony and warrants a maximum of four years in prison, according to New York State penal law.
