Project 'Safe Surrender' Coming to Brooklyn

For some, a chance to resolve outstanding warrants and summons.

There are such things as second chances.

At least, that may be the message for some Brooklyn residents with outstanding warrants at the 2011 Safe Surrender Project, sponsored by Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes, The Legal Aid Society and the New York Police Department, among others.

At Mount Sion Baptist Church on Dec. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., court officers and defense attorneys will be present to help resolve unfinished business related to charges such as marijuana possession, littering and disorderly conduct.

And while the program is not "amnesty," the goal is to provide a "safe" environment to assist individuals to resolved outstanding warrants and continue their lives with peace of mind, according to organizers.

Mount Sion Baptist Church is located at 365 Ralph Ave. A resource fair and food will be available at Shirley Chisolm Day Care Center, Inc. II, located at 2023 Pacific St. For info, call 718-250-3888 or visit projectsafesurrender2011.org.
