Suspect Identified in Whitman Houses Slaying

Darren Prince, 25, wanted in connection with fatal shooting of Justin Cherry, 20.

Police released the name of the victim of Monday night as they continued efforts to find the alleged killer. 

Justin Cherry, 20, was shot once in the chest during a dispute at 9:20 p.m. in front of 86 Carlton Ave. at the northeastern corner of the housing project. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  

The suspect, Darren Prince, 25, is described by police as a black male, 5-foot 10-inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. Prince's last known address is on Pulaski Street in Bed-Stuy.

A witness at the scene, Larry Grinnage, said the incident occurred in a courtyard not far from 84 Carlton Ave. where Cherry reportedly lived with his mother. 

According to Reverend Mark Taylor of the Church of the Open Door, funeral arrangements for Cherry are still pending.

"The family is very distraught, very sad," he said.

According to police, Prince should be considered armed and dangerous.
