Police Car Crash Sends Man to Hospital

Incident occurred on Flushing Avenue at Adelphi Street on Tuesday afternoon.

With the sound of police helicopters buzzing overhead, officers investigated the scene of an incident involving an NYPD squad car and two other vehicles on Flushing Avenue in Fort Greene on Tuesday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, Moses Rosa, the accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when a minivan made a left turn in front of a squad car travelling westbound on Flushing Avenue.

The police car then slammed into a Volkswagen parked on the eastbound side of Flushing Avenue with a male occupant inside, said Rosa, who was travelling five car lengths behind on Flushing Avenue on his way from picking up his daughter from nearby P.S. 46.

The man, described as being in his 20s or 30s, was transported by ambulance from the scene.

"The force of the crash knocked him into the passenger seat," Rosa said. "There was blood coming out of his mouth."

No officers were transported by ambulance from the scene. According to Rosa, the squad cars sirens were on at the time of the accident.

The woman driving the minivan was being questioned at the scene.

Today's crash is the second police car-related crash in a month in the 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. On May 8, an NYPD vehicle on a call at Greene and Grand avenues.
