Police and Thieves! Plenty of Robberies in This Week's Blotter

It was an especially busy week for stick-up artists in the 88th Precinct.

Robberies

  • Two thugs stole a man’s iPhone and wallet at knifepoint on Feb. 3. The victim told cops he was walking on Flatbush Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street at around 1:20 p.m. when the duo approached, flashed the blade and said, “Give me your money.” The victim complied and handed over his phone and cash, worth a total of $1,250.
  • A pair of thieves stole a man’s iPod and cash on Feb. 3. The 58-year-old victim told cops he was at the intersection of Prince Street and Myrtle Avenue at around 4:35 p.m. when the two men approached and asked for a light. Then one of them grabbed the victim and said, “Give me all you got!” while the other rummaged through the victim’s pockets. They stole an iPod and $962. Just to add insult to injury, they stepped on the victim’s glasses.
  • Four brutes beat down a man and stole his cellphone on Feb. 5. The victim told cops he was at Fulton Street and Rockwell Place at around 5:45 p.m. when the quartet approached and began punching and kicking him. When the victim hit the ground one of the attackers ordered him to “stay down!” while the others rummaged through his pockets. Minutes later Officer Yuan Newton arrived on the scene and arrested a 22-year-old suspect for the attack.

Cars vanished

  • A thief stole a car from Classon Avenue sometime between Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. The owner of the auto told cops he returned to his parking space on the 21st at around 8:30 a.m. and saw that his 1994 Buick Century was gone.
  •  A thief stole a car parked at S. Oxford Street and DeKalb Avenue sometime between Feb. 2 and Feb. 5. The victim told cops he had last seen his 2008 Ford Edge on the 2nd at around 11:30 p.m.. When he returned three days later it was nowhere to be found.

  • A thief was caught snooping around inside of a car parked on Lafayette Avenue on Feb. 3. The owner of the auto told cops he returned to his parking space at Washington Avenue at around 1:15 p.m. only to find the suspect insde of the car and stashing stuff in a bag. The thief, who had smashed a window to get inside the ride, managed to escape with a wallet, cash and an assortment of IDs worth a total of $420. But hours later Officer Anthony Barbee arrested a 28-year-old suspect.
  • A thief was caught redhanded trying to steal car parked on Adelphi Street on Feb. 6. The 34-year-old suspect was spotted by cops snooping around inside the Jeep Grand Cherokee parked between Flushing and Park avenues at around 1:20 a.m. The driver-side window was shattered and the suspect was carrying a screwdriver.

Bad Day Gets Worse

A thief stole a man’s car from in front of the 88th Precinct on Feb. 3.

The victim, who had been arrested last month, returned to the precinct to retrieve his car on Feb. 2 at around 4 p.m, but cops would not relinquish the 1996 Mazda because the owner still had a suspended license. The next day as cops were taking an inventory they realized the car was missing.

Front Seat Swipes 

  • A thief broke the window of a car parked on Willoughby Avenue and stole an assortment of pricey stuff on Feb. 4. The owner of the car told cops he had parked between Hall Street and Classon Avenue at around 9 a.m. When he returned three hours later a window was smashed and he was missing a GPS system, seven hats, his radio, and a watch, all worth a total of $1,860.
  • A thief broke into a car parked at Willoughby and Waverly avenues and stole some checks and a credit card on Feb. 2. The owner of the auto told cops he had parked the ride at around 10 p.m. the day before. When he returned 10 hours later the driver side window had been smashed and the items removed.

Purse pilfer

A thief stole a woman’s purse from the on Feb. 6.

The victim told cops she had left her bag on a chair insidet the venue at Clermont and Lafayette avenues at around 1:30 a.m. When she returned her attention to it about an hour later the bag, containing an assortment of IDs and credit cards, was gone.

Burlington Coat Swipe

A quick-handed thief stole a woman’s bag while she tried on a coat at the Burlington Coat Factory on Feb. 6.

The victim told cops she set her bag down in the store at the Atlantic Terminal Mall at around 3:30 p.m. When she went to check on it minutes later her bag, containing an assortment of IDs and credit cards, was gone.

Salon Rob

A thief stole an assortment of electronics from a Myrtle Avenue nail salon on Jan. 31.

An employee at the store between Adelphi Street and Clermont Avenue told cops she had closed the store at around 9 p.m. the day before. When an employee returned the next morning she noticed that the lock to the front gate was missing and that the door was unlocked. The thief got away with a hi-def television, a fancy Blu-Ray DVD player, and some speakers, all worth a total of $3,195.
