More Crime At Atlantic Terminal In This Week's Blotter

The Bruce Ratner-owned mall is the site of several more incidents in our regular roundup of crime within the 88th Precinct.

Menace at Marshalls

A thief stole a woman’s bag while she shopped at the Marshalls in the Atlantic Terminal Mall on Jan. 22.

The victim told cops she had placed her bag in a shopping cart at around 2:30 p.m. She said she turned her attention away from the bag for only a few seconds, but that it was enough time for the thief to make his move. She lost an assortment of IDs and a credit card.

Trouble at Target

  • A thief swiped a woman’s bag while she was shopping at the Target in the Atlantic Terminal mall on Jan. 18. The victim told cops she had placed her purse in her shopping cart at around 3:15 p.m. When she returned her attention to it 20 minutes later it was missing, along with four credit cards and cash worth a total of $700.
  •  Another thief snatched a woman’s purse off of a baby stroller while she shopped in the Target on Jan. 22. The victim told cops she had hung her bag on the stroller at around 3 p.m. When she returned her attention to it 10 minutes later it was gone, along with a wallet, two credit cards, and $112.

Two would-be thieves attempted to rob a man on Jan. 19, but came up empty handed after their quarry made a run for it.

The 20-year-old victim told cops he was at Lafayette Avenue and S. Oxford Street at around noon when the pair approached and said, “Empty your pockets.” The victim ignored the order and ran into a nearby grocery store. The two thieves gave chase, but made a run for it themselves after the owner of the grocery store called the cops. The next day Officer Gregory Schwenk arrested a 16-year-old suspect for the incident.

Burgled

A burglar broke into an apartment in the Ingersoll Houses sometime between Jan. 15 and Jan. 18.

A resident at the apartment on Monument Walk between St. Edwards and Navy streets told cops she had last been at home on the 15th at around 10 p.m. When she returned three days later she noticed the lock on her front door was damaged and that she was missing a flat screen TV, an iPod, a gold ring, a radio and cash worth a total of $1,000.

Red handed

A thief was caught snooping around an Irving Place home on Jan. 22.

Cops caught the 31-year-old suspect in the residence between Gates and Putnam avenues at around 12:30 a.m. Officer Jason Pena reported that the thief had a hammer, a screwdriver and a knife that he used to pry open the basement door.

Car invasions

  • A crafty thief smashed open a car window and stole three pocket books from the trunk on Jan. 16. The victims told cops they had stashed their bags in the trunk of the car they parked on Fulton Street at Waverly Avenue at around 10 p.m. When they returned about two hours later the passenger-side window was broken, and their bags were missing. They lost an assortment of stuff worth $6,150.
  • A thief stole an assortment of electronics from a car parked at Hanson Place and St. Felix Street on Jan. 19. The victim told cops she had left her car at the intersection at around 6 p.m. When she returned an hour and a half later, she noticed that she was missing an Apple Macbook, two hard drives, a bookbag, and a brand new video game.

Bump and Run

A thief bumped a woman riding a Brooklyn College-bound 2 train and stole her wallet on Jan. 19.

The 48-year-old victim told cops the crowded train had pulled into the Atlantic- Pacific station at around 6:15 p.m. when the thief made his move. She lost $45, two IDs and a credit card.

Trouble on the Train

A quick-handed thief snatched a man’s iPhone while he texted on a Utica Avenue-bound 4 train on Jan. 20, but was arrested moments later.

The victim told police the doors were open to the train as it picked up passengers at the Atlantic-Pacific station at around 10:20 p.m. That’s when the thief reached in the train from the platform, grabbed the phone, and then dropped it during a scuffle. Officer Juan Fernandez quickly arrived on the scene and busted the 17-year-old suspect.

Car stolen

A crook stole a car parked at N. Elliot Place and Park Avenue on Jan. 18.

The owner of the 2003 Acura told cops he had parked it at around 8:50 a.m. When he returned to it about 10 hours later it was gone.
