Man Arrested for Stiffing Yellow Cabbie of $30 Fare: Police Blotter

Also: two women arrested for attacking each other.

A round-up of recent crime in the area:

On July 10 at 2:10 a.m., a 39-year-old yellow cab driver said he was hailed by two men at 73rd Street and Second Avenue in New York City. When they arrived at a Washington Avenue building located near Classon Avenue, one man said he didn't want to pay the $30 cab fare and the second man exited the cab. As the first man exited, the cab driver confronted him. The man showed he had a knife and then ran into the building. Police arrested 23-year-old Michael Sobers, who allegedly showed he had a knife, in connection to the incident.

On July 13 at 5 p.m., a 24-year-old woman said her boyfriend went into her pocketbook and took her Samsung Galaxy S3, New York State ID and EBT Card while they were inside a Fleet Walk apartment. When she tried to take back the items, her boyfriend punched her in the mouth, injuring her inner lower lip.

Police arrested two women for assaulting each other during a fight on July 10 at 5:30 p.m. at an Emerson Place building located near Willoughby Avenue. Melika Byrd, 24, and Vean Drax, 27, were arguing when Drax alleged that Byrd threw a chair at her, hitting her in the mouth. Byrd then allegedly punched Drax in the mouth, splitting open the inside of her lip. Byrd alleged that Drax threw a chair at her, hit Byrd with her elbow and dragged Byrd down the stairs. Byrd suffered pain to her back, redness and cuts to her right arm. Drax also allegedly threatened Byrd. Both women were arrested on the scene. 

Police arrested Jimmy Barnes, 35, on July 14 at 11:40 a.m. at a Clinton Avenue apartment for assaulting a 30-year-old woman. Barnes allegedly picked up a plastic bag full of different items and threw it at the woman, hitting her in the right side of her face and neck. The woman told police Barnes also said he would kill her.
