The man shot by a police officer after he allegedly threatened to stab a woman with a pair of scissors Wednesdsay afternoon is now facing assault charges, the NYPD told DNAinfo.com.
Keary Green, 40, who was shot by a 25-year-old officer in 48 Fort Greene Pl., was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, DNAinfo.com noted.
Green, who was taken to Kings County Hospital Center for the gunshot wounds and was initially listed in critical condition, was upgraded to stable condition and is expected to survive, police said. He currently awaits arraignment, DNAinfo.com said.
At approximately 3:22 p.m. on Wednesday, a uniformed police officer on foot was flagged down on Fulton Street by a woman who said an emotionally disturbed person was inside the nearby building.
The officer and the woman entered the building, which stands across the street from Brooklyn Technical High School, and found Green on the second floor holding a pair of scissors to his own throat.
Green then threw the woman to the ground and threatened to stab her with the scissors, police said. The officer fired twice, striking the man in the torso.
The woman was not injured, police said. DNAinfo.com noted the relationship between Green and the woman was not immediately known.
The officer was brought to Methodist Hospital to be treated for tinnitus, police said.
