Gunman Convicted for 2008 Hair Salon Shooting

Guilty of second-degree murder, Zaire Paige faces 107 years to life behind bars.

One of the gunmen in a shocking 2008 shooting inside a Fulton Street hair salon was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 107 years to life in prison, the Brooklyn District Attorney announced on Monday.

Zaire Paige, 24, was found guilty of opening fire on Oct. 27, 2008 in the De Lux Gallery Hair Salon between S. Portland and Greene avenues that left one dead and four injured, including an off-duty police officer.

A man working inside the De Lux Gallery on Monday evening did not wish to recall the harrowing incident.

“I just want people to forget about it,” said the man, who did not wish to give his name. “It was bad for business.”

But anyone who witnessed the mid-afternoon shooting will likely have it etched in their memory forever.

The attack began when Paige and his accomplice, Robert Crawford, 26, spotted Lethania Garcia, who they suspected had shot a friend.

The pair then pursued Garcia into the hair salon, unleashing a barrage of bullets that killed Garcia and wounded bystanders.

The off-duty police officer, Andrea Cox, who was shot in the foot, had to have two of her toes fused together due to her injuries.

Crawford was convicted in November and sentenced to 53 years behind bars.

Efforts to reach Paige’s lawyer were to no avail.
