Fright in Ft. Greene Park! It's This Week's Police Blotter

It must be getting warm, there was a lot of crime within the confines of the 88th Precinct last week.

There were at least two incidents involving teenagers in Fort Greene's iconic park last week, here's the rundown.

  • A band of punks intimidated a 13-year-old and stole his Blackberry on March 1. The victim told cops he was in at around 4:30 p.m. when four to five guys approached and began shoving him. They then ran off with his fancy cellphone.
  • A punk punched a teen in the nose and stole his cellphone on March 2. The 16-year-old victim told cops he was in Fort Greene Park at around 2:30 p.m. when his attacker made his move and stole the phone, which was worth $50. The victim was later taken to Kings County Hospital.

Stick-Up

A trio of armed bandits stormed a Fulton Street nail salon and stole a person’s wallet on March. 1.

The victim told cops he was at between Cambridge and St. James places at around 2:45 p.m. when the three appeared and flashed a gun. They escaped with two credit cards and $108.

Robbery Gone Wrong

A thug attempted to steal $2 from a man, but ended up in handcuffs on March 1.

The 26-year-old victim told cops he was at Washington and Lafayette avenues at around 10:30 p.m. when the thief tried to steal the cash. A scuffle ensued, and the thief punched the victim in the face and also managed to kick out the rear passenger-side window of a car. An hour later Officer Michael Noboa arrested the suspect.

Threatening

A thief menaced a woman into handing over $30 on March 2.

The 21-year-old victim told cops she was crossing the street at Greene Avenue and St. James Place at around 2:45 a.m. when a stranger walking in front of her turned around and said he had a weapon and that he wanted her cash. She complied, and the thief escaped.

Gunpoint

  • A thief held up a 17-year-old at gunpoint and demanded his iPod on March 3. The victim said he was walking on Fort Greene Place between DeKalb and Lafayette avenues on his way to school at around 8:47 a.m. when the thug approached from behind and said, “Let me talk to you.” Then the thief asked, “Are you trying to play me? What do you have on you?” That’s when the punk flashed his pistol and the victim handed over the mp3 player.
  • A pair of thieves held up a woman at gunpoint and stole her wallet and cellphone on March 5. The 18-year-old victim told cops she was on her way home and walking near N. Elliot and Auburn places at around 6 p.m. when the duo approached. One said, “Give me what you got!” and pointed a black gun at her stomach. The victim handed over her phone, debit card and cash, all worth a total of $130.

Showdown

Two women got into fisticuffs during a heated argument on March 1, and one of them ended up being arrested.

Cops said that the pair began arguing in the hallway of an apartment building on Tillary Street between Prince and Navy streets at around 8 p.m. That’s when one of the women punched the other in face, causing a laceration to her opponent’s right eye. Officer Stephen Leuzze hauled the pugilistic woman away in handcuffs.

Conned

A con artist scammed a 60-year-old woman out of $7,000 on March 2.

The victim told cops she was in front of the Immigrant Savings Bank on Myrtle Avenue between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues at around 11:15 a.m. when a woman approached and asked her for help. Cops didn’t reveal details, but about 15 minutes later the elderly victim had driven the woman back to her house and handed over the heaping pile of cash.

Car break-In

A thief broke into a car parked at Willoughby Street and Ashland Place on March 2.

The owner of the auto said he had parked his car at around 1:30 p.m. and gone to work out. When he returned two hours later a rear window of his car was broken and he was missing two credit cards, two IDs, and $380.

Trouble at Applebee’s

An 18-year-old employee at Applebee’s was arrested by cops on March 4 after scamming  $1,117 from the eatery.

A manager at the restaurant at inside the Atlantic Terminal mall told cops that he received a notice of suspicious transactions and then confronted the employee at around 9:50 a.m. on Feb. 24. The employee confessed to discounting prior transactions and then taking cash out of the register over the course of January and February. Officer William Sesack got the credit for the collar.

Wallet Swipe

A thief stole a woman’s wallet from on Myrtle Avenue on March 6.

The victim told cops she was at the restaurant at the corner of Washington Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. when she placed her wallet on the bar. Moments later she realized it, along with a credit card and ID, was gone.

Bad Homesitter

A friend-turned-thief stole a woman’s flatscreen TV and Playstation 3 while he was looking after her apartment on March 4.

The victim told cops she had traveled to Florida two days before and that the suspect was the only one with access to her apartment on Lefferts Place between Grand and Classon avenues. On March 6 Officer Frank Liuzzi arrested the 45-year-old suspect, and discovered that he was also in possession of the woman’s wallet.

Cars Vanished

  • A thief stole a car parked on Myrtle Avenue on March 3. The owner of the 2010 Rav 4 told cops he had parked it at Prince Street at around 11:00 a.m. A mere hour later it was gone. Cops arrested a suspect in the crime on March 6.
  • A man discovered that his Lincoln Towncar had been stolen on March 6. The victim told cops he had parked his ride at Quincy and Downing streets five days prior at around 8 p.m. When he returned it was missing.
