Fort Greene Man Arrested for Identity Theft
Emmanuel Egbunike, 43, was found with 20 drivers licenses from three different states, all with his photo on them, and 289 Social Security numbers.
A Fort Greene man was arrested on Thursday, May 9, in Long Island for possessing 20 drivers licenses from three different states and 289 Social Security numbers.
Emmanuel Egbunike, 43, was originally arrested and charged for grand larceny on May 1 in Farmingdale, Long Island, by detectives from the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department.
Detectives searched Egbunike's car and found 10 New Jersey drivers licenses, nine Maryland drivers licenses and one Connecticut driver’s license, with Egbunike’s photo on each of them. Detectives also recovered names, dates of birth and social security numbers of 289 people.
So on May 9, after being released from the Westchester County Correctional Facility, Egbunike, of 8 Monument Walk, was arrested by Suffolk detectives and brought back to Long Island.
Egbunike was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and unlawful possession of personal identification information in the second degree. He is being held at the Sixth Precinct and will be arraigned today, May 10, at First District Court in Central Islip. The investigation is continuing.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
