First-time Subway Rider Beat Until Unconscious: This Week's Police Blotter

Shortly after receiving police summons for smoking, young man is beaten and robbed by thieves at Atlantic Ave.-Pacific St. station last week.

20-Year-Old Beat Up, Robbed On Subway Platform

A young man riding the subway at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9 for the first time stepped off a southbound No. 2 train at Atlantic Ave.-Pacific St. station to smoke a cigarette on the platform. After being issued a summons by police for lighting up on MTA property, the 20-year-old was attacked by several suspects who were on the same train. The suspects first bumped him, and then beat him up, taking his money, Top-Sider shoes, a Samsung Instinct 2 cellphone and a debit card. The victim did not see where his attackers went because he was knocked unconscious during the assault.

"If You Stay Away, You'll Be Safe"

While walking through Fort Greene Park toward N. Portland and Myrtle avenues listening to his headphones last Wednesday just before midnight, a 21-year-old man was approached from behind by two suspects. The first suspect ripped off the headphones—a pair of $200 Red Dr. Dre Beats—and asked him, "Whatcha got?" When the victim handed over $20, the second suspect told him, "If you stay away, you'll be safe."

Purse Snatch at Adelphi and Greene 

On Monday, Aug. 8, a thief snatched a woman's purse near the intersection of Adelphi Street and Greene Avenue. The suspect fled eastbound on Greene Avenue with her bag containing a cellphone, Canon Slim Shot camera and credit card. 

Man Hit With Rock While Riding Bike

A 44-year-old riding his bike on Navy Street southbound toward Myrtle Avenue was hit by a rock on Friday at 6:25 p.m. The rock cut the man in the face. Though the man was not able to identify the rock-thrower, he told police he saw a group of teenagers running eastbound on an overpass connecting Fort Greene Houses. 

Cellphone Grab at Lafayette Ave. Station

While at Lafayette Avenue C line station, a 16-year-old male was approached by two suspects—one of whom asked the teen, "What's that hanging outside your pocket?" Before the teen could answer, one of the suspects punched him in the face numerous times as the second stood by as a lookout. When the victim tried to get up, his attacker pushed him down on the seat and took the teen's cellphone and charger from a pants pocket. Two men, age 32 and 30, were arrested by police and charged with robbery. 

Mugged For iPhone

On Sunday at 2:38 p.m., two males approached a 34-year-old man near the corner of Greene Avenue and Cambridge Place and said, "What's up?" When the latter continued to walk, the two suspects grabbed him from behind and punched him in the face, stealing his iPhone. 

Resident Arrives Home to Find Robber in Living Room

A resident of Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill got a scare (hopefully) of a lifetime last Wednesday after arriving home to find unknown man in her living room. After telling the resident to come in, the intruder left the 29-year-old woman's home through the front door. An investigation later revealed a pushed-in screen in a back bedroom and a shattered closet window. The resident said the intruder was bleeding from the head when he left the location. It was unclear whether anything was stolen.

Apple Computer Stole in Break-in

A resident of an apartment of S. Oxford Street between Greene and Atlantic avenues had a $1,500 Apple Computer with a 15-inch screen stolen sometime Friday evening. Interviews with neighbors failed to turn up any leads. 

Woman Who Left Items in Another's Bag Wants Them Back

After leaving her belongings in the bag of an acquaintance in the early morning hours of Aug. 6, a 29-year-old told police that she is still waiting to get them back. A second interview Aug. 9 revealed a confusing sequence of events, with the complainant claiming she left the items in a bag belonging to a friend's girlfriend while hanging out with a group of people on Washington Park and Willoughby Avenue. After a fight broke out, at which time a machete was brandished, fists were flying and the police were called, the girlfriend left with her bag with the complainant's items still in it. 

Aussie Woman's Bag Stolen From Target Shopping Cart

While shopping at Target at Atlantic Terminal Mall at 7 p.m. Wednesday, a woman had a bag containing a Mac Pro laptop, a Nokia cellphone, iPod shuffle and Australian ID stolen from a shopping cart. Surveillance footage revealed a man removing the bag from the cart and exiting the store. 

Bus Rider Has Items Snatched From Bag

A 28-year-old woman getting on an MTA bus at Marcy and Greene avenues discovered her debit card, cellphone, ID and iPod stolen after two fellow riders tapped her on the shoulder and told her they saw a robber go into her bag and remove her property. 

No. 3 Train Robbery

While stopped at Nevins Street on Friday at 7:20 p.m., a man reached into a subway car of a northbound No. 3 train and grabbed a woman's iPhone 3. The phone had a green case.

Victoria's Secret Bra Heist

A thief stole $1,600 in Dream Angel Bras from the Victoria's Secret at Atlantic Terminal Mall on Saturday afternoon. The bras were placed inside a Target bag. The suspect fled on foot out of the back door of the store in an unknown direction.

Woman Robbed on Classon Avenue G Train Platform

On Saturday night, a woman sitting on a bench on the Queens-bound side of Classon Avenue G train station had her purse snatched by unknown thief. The purse contained an iPhone 4, debit and credit cards, ID and cash. Police riding the train north and southbound did not turn up any suspects.
