A burglar attempting to gain entry to a Downing Street browstone prompted a massive police response Friday morning, according to a witness.
Police said the incident began when the suspect attempted to break into the garden level of a building on Downing between Putnam and Gates avenue at 8:06 a.m.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect fled into the building's backyard, where he climbed on top of a small, one-story art gallery on Irving Place.
The suspect was later caught near the corner of Classon Avenue and Quincy Street.
Police could not confirm whether any items were stolen from the residence.
