Dec. 19: Buyback Program Takes Dozens of Weapons Off Streets

Partnership between DA's office, police and clergy hailed as a success.

1. The New York Police Department announced that 182 weapons were taken off the streets as a result of the , which concluded Saturday. Among the firearms recovered was a Tec-9 automatic, a Colt M-4 assault rifle and another assault rifle with the bayonet. Seven of the firearms were loaded, according to police.

2. The son of Delores Gillespie, the victim of , told reporters and neighbors yesterday that his 74-year-old mother was a "" who "gave all her life." The suspect, Jerome Isaac, turned himself into police Sunday.

3. Frank Gallo's musical style blends acoustic rock, funk and folk with catchy sing-alongs with at the Clinton Hill Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library at 4 p.m.

4. Pratt Institute is one of many 'pop-up' stores setting up shop at Dekalb Market this holiday season. The modular outdoor shopping center is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. with most stores opening by 11 a.m.
