Dec. 19: Buyback Program Takes Dozens of Weapons Off Streets
Partnership between DA's office, police and clergy hailed as a success.
1. The New York Police Department announced that 182 weapons were taken off the streets as a result of the , which concluded Saturday. Among the firearms recovered was a Tec-9 automatic, a Colt M-4 assault rifle and another assault rifle with the bayonet. Seven of the firearms were loaded, according to police.
2. The son of Delores Gillespie, the victim of , told reporters and neighbors yesterday that his 74-year-old mother was a "" who "gave all her life." The suspect, Jerome Isaac, turned himself into police Sunday.
