Crook Snatches Purse From Preoccupied Shopper

A thief snatched a woman’s purse from her shopping cart while at an Atlantic Avenue department store on May 5.
The 57-year-old victim told police that she placed her wallet inside a canvass tote bag and put it in her shopping cart while at Target in the Atlantic Center Mall. At 10:15 a.m., another shopper pushed their cart into her leg. When the victim bent down to check on her leg, the quick-handed crook snatched the tote bag out of her cart and ran out of the store. The shopper-turned-crook got away with $24 cash, two credit cards, a New York State driving learner’s permit, social security card, college ID and telephone number book.
Police arrested a 32-year-old man for strangling his girlfriend at Atlantic Avenue department store April 30.
The 26-year-old victim told police that she got into an argument with her boyfriend while at the Atlantic Center Mall at 8:15 p.m. When police arrived to the scene, the victim had redness and bruising to the right side of her neck. A witness told police the man grabbed her by the neck during their fight. The victim refused medical attention and the 32-year-old crook was arrested for assault.
