Crimes Against Women: This Week's Police Blotter

Several violent incidents highlight danger on Fort Greene-Clinton Hill streets.

This blotter was compiled using information provided by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Robbery

  • A 28-year-old woman was grabbed from behind by two unknown perps while walking on Clifton Place on June 27 at 7 p.m. One of the suspects grabbed her iPhone 4 while the other tried to wrestle away her bag. During the struggle, the woman received bruises to her right arm as she successful held on to her bag. A police search of the area didn’t turn up the suspects, who are still at large.
  • An argument at Washington Hotel at 400 Washington Ave. on June 29 at 3:20 p.m. over sex ended with a man trying to strangle a 34-year-old woman described by police as a “known prostitute.” The man is also suspected of banging the woman’s head several times on the floor causing a cut to her face.
  • Police arrested a 45-year-old man for first hitting a woman and then stealing her cellphone during an argument near Atlantic Center on June 29 at around 8:20 p.m.
  • In an apparent transaction gone badly, a man carrying $1,000 had all of his cash stolen at gunpoint by several other men after a meeting at the corner of S. Portland and Atlantic avenues on June 30 at 6:50 p.m.
  • A 53-year-old man was struck on the back of the head by an unknown perp demanding his cellphone on Willoughby Street and Clermont Avenue on June 30 at around 9 p.m. The perp fled north on Clermont without the phone.
  • Two unknown men restrained the super of 163 Park Ave. with zip ties on July 1 at around 11:30 a.m. and stole $3,000 from his pocket. One of the perps had a black firearm. The men are still at large.
  • A man snatched the purse and removed several items belonging to a 39-year-old woman during an argument at the playground at St. Edwards and Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene Park on July 1 at 1:30 p.m.
  • The friend of a 39-year-old displayed a handgun and demanded he turn over his cellphone and cash on St. Edwards and Auburn Place on July 1 at around 4 p.m. 

Assault

  • The basketball court at Fort Greene Park was the scene of a fight between a 24-year-old male and six other men on June 25 at around 3 p.m.  The fight turned bloody when one of the six men pulled out a knife from his hoodie pocket and stabbed the 24 year old in the leg. The victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment.
  • A 13-year-old girl was arrested for throwing hot water at her mother causing 2nd degree burns during a fight about her cellphone on June 26 at 11:10 p.m. at Whitman Houses.
  • Police arrested a 40-year-old woman on June 27 at around 8 p.m. for striking another woman over the head with a cane at the Tillary Street Women’s Shelter.
  • A 31-year-old female bit a police officer during a ride to the 88th Precinct stationhouse after being arrested for throwing a bottle of Mike’s Hard Lemonade into the street in the vicinity of 378 Lafayette Ave. on June 30 at 3:35 a.m.
  • Police arrested a 25-year-old female for throwing bleach into the face of another woman during an argument at Whitman Houses on July 1 at around 5 p.m.

Larceny

  • A housesitter’s boyfriend is the prime suspect in the case of a wedding ring that went missing from a Myrtle Avenue apartment sometime between June 22 and June 24 while the couple was on vacation in Connecticut. The ring is white gold with five diamonds and four sapphires and has the engraving, “Always & Forever.”
  • A resident of Ingersoll Houses found out that her income tax refund check had been fraudulently cashed on June 26. The check shows that a person representing “Boss Tax Professionals LLC” signed the check and forged the victim’s initials.
  • While riding a Manhattan-bound “C” train at Lafayette Av Station last October, an unknown perp snatched a man’s iPad 2 and case from his lap and fled. The man told police that he took so long to file a report—eight months—due to the fact that “he constantly works.”
  • A houseguest at an apartment on S. Elliott Place made off with a pair of Ray Bans, BlackBerry, wallet and cash during a get-together on June 29 at around 12:10 p.m. Though security cameras in the building didn’t catch him, the perp reportedly has a Facebook page.
  • A 37-year-old man is out of $1,100 and an apartment after a friend of a friend showed him an apartment and then arranged a meeting on June 12 at Flushing and Carlton avenues to hand over the cash. Two weeks later, the man still has not heard back about the apartment.
  • A man hired by the owner of 238 Lafayette Ave. to remove metal scrap stole a clawfoot porcelain tub and freestanding sink on June 27-28.
  • Five young men stole a man’s cellphone in the vicinity of 127 Lafayette Ave. on June 30 at around 11:47 p.m.  The man described one of the robbers as a black male in his teens wearing a dark-colored baseball cap.

  • A 2003 Honda Civic was reported stolen from a street parking space in the vicinity of 122 Vanderbilt Ave. on June 26.
  • After parking his 2008 Infiniti G-class in the vicinity of 887 Fulton St. on June 30, a man returned the next day to find his vehicle missing. There were no signs of broken glass or tampering of the vehicle.
  • A 2000 Ford Windstar was reported stolen from a parking spot underneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at 275 Park Ave. on July 1.
